The bulk of this series, three cubic feet, consists of general administrative files, that are arranged by year and then alphabetically by name. A lot of these files consist of correspondence from constituents. Also included are appointments, applications, extraditions and requisitions, pardons, petitions, rewards, telegrams, ets. Topies discussed are the gubernatorial election of 1890, the University of Alabama, Mt. Vernon Barracks, the labor movement and strikes in Alabama, and the activities of the Pinkerton's National Detective Agency in Alabama. Included in these records are investigative reports that were sent by the Pinkerton Agency to Governor Jones concerning labor activities in the mining and iron districts of Alabama. These reports chronicle the activities of Pinkerton agents in Alabama and are signed by William A. Pinkerton of Chicago. The itemized expenses of these agents are also listed. Correspondents include the Louisville and Nashville Railroad, Pinkerton's National Detective Agency, Alabama Hospital for the Insane, the Convict Inspector, the state penitentiary, the Geological Survey of Alabama and other state departments as well as local government, etc. Letters to Harvey Ellis Jones, the Governor's recording secretary, are included.

Thomas Goode Jones was born on 1844 Nov. 26 at Macon, Ga. He was educated by tutors, Mongomery, Ala. schools, the schools of Dr. Charles Minor and Gesner Harrison in Virginia, and the Virginia Military Institute.
